The top surface of the hide, kept whole, dense and strong. This is the only grade we cut, and it ages rather than wears out.
The top layer with its natural surface sanded off and replaced by a spray coat and a printed grain. It looks crisp until the coat wears.
A lower cut of the hide, painted and embossed to imitate the top. The paint is what cracks first.
A sheet made of shredded leather waste and glue. It is the cheapest option and the quickest to split into layers.
