It is a classy, designer-made belt with no corners cut, made to last a lifetime.

A belt can use a sliver of low-grade Italian split, paint it and stamp it, and still carry the word Italian. Genuine leather is the lowest real grade, not a mark of quality.

Bonded and layered belts are glued together around a filler core, and daily bending breaks the bond. The edge splits first.

Our straps are cut from one single piece of thick cowhide. No layers, no glue line, no cardboard.
The buckle looked like silver and now it is brassy and pitted.

Most buckles are plated zinc alloy, and the plating wears through with use. Winter salt then pits the metal underneath.

Italian on the label means nothing without the grade. This is what each one really is.

Full-grain
The top surface of the hide, left exactly as the animal grew it. At the tannery it is the hide that costs the most, and it is the only one Bian buys.

A hide with blemishes sanded off and a uniform finish sprayed on. Neat to look at, but it has lost its best layer.
